Adobe releases Photoshop 27.3 with more creative control, smoother workflows and smarter AI‑powered results

A few days ago, Adobe released Photoshop version 27.2 with performance enhancements and fixes for customer-reported issues. Hot on the heels of that update, the company has launched Photoshop desktop version 27.3. This update promises to give you more creative control, smoother workflows and smarter AI‑powered results.

Clarity and Dehaze adjustment layers

With Adobe Photoshop 27.3, you gain better control over your images thanks to the new Clarity and Dehaze adjustment layer. You can now improve mid‑tone contrast and reduce haze, all non‑destructively, so your originals stay intact. To use the new features, simply select Create new fill or adjustment layer in the Layers panel, then choose Clarity and dehaze. The Clarity slider adjusts midtone contrast and adds definition to images. In addition, the Dehaze slider adjusts haze and so improves contrast.

Grain adjustment layer

Adobe Photoshop 27.3 introduces the Grain adjustment layer. This new feature makes it easier to add and refine texture in your images. You can also experiment freely and fine‑tune grain effects without committing permanently thanks to the adjustment layer format. Once you have added a Grain adjustment layer to your image you can adjust the Amount to control the overall intensity of the grain.

Plus, you can change the size of individual grain particles with the Slide property. There’s also a Roughness slider which alters the randomness of the grain for a smoother or rougher look.

AI updates

With Adobe Photoshop 27.3, you can choose the latest Firefly Fill & Expand model in Generative Fill and Generative Expand for more accurate, higher‑quality results. Adobe has also updated the Remove tool so you can remove unwanted objects or people from your images faster and more intuitively than before. Additionally, you can now use a reference image to achieve better visual consistency in Generative Fill. Adobe says that this helps Photoshop match objects more accurately across generations.

What we think

Adobe Photoshop has been the industry standard for raster-based image editing, photo manipulation and compositing for over 30 years. With the latest update to version 23.3, Adobe is ensuring that Photoshop won’t be losing its crown any time soon. The new Clarity, Dehaze and Grain adjustment layers means you have even more ways to alter your image non-destructively. Also, the new AI-powered tools give you more control when you remove, alter, or add elements. It’s understandable that some people don’t like Adobe’s subscription model for all of its Creative Cloud apps. However, if you earn your living working with images, Photoshop is the best you can get.

Pricing and availability

Adobe Photoshop 27.3 is available now if you have the appropriate Creative Cloud subscription. To update Photoshop 27.3, click “Update” in the Creative Cloud desktop app next to Photoshop.
