Adobe has released Photoshop version 27.6 alongside an updated version 9.3 of Lightroom. The new features cover enhanced AI-powered functions and a handful of workflow improvements.
Rotate Object
The new Rotate Object feature in Photoshop turns a pixel layer into a rotatable 3D object. Once you’ve cut an object out, you can spin it on the canvas to view it from different angles or adjust its orientation. A low-resolution preview appears while you rotate, but the result renders at full image resolution once you hit Done.
The process is powered by Adobe’s Firefly generative AI, so it consumes credits each time you use it.
Remove Distractions
The Remove tool in Photoshop uses generative AI to clean up unwanted parts of an image. The latest update adds a Find Distractions option that identifies unwanted wires, people and other clutter in your photos. You can target wires and cables specifically, focus on people or let Photoshop hunt for general distractions. Once detections come back, you can review and refine them before committing.
A new Reflection Removal feature also tackles large, full-image reflections caused by shooting through windows.

Generative fill
Generative fill in Photoshop now lets you pick the AI model behind the result. Adobe’s own options include Firefly Image 5, Firefly Fill & Expand and Firefly Image 1. Partner models are also on the menu: Gemini 3.1 (with Nano Banana 2), Gemini 3 (with Nano Banana Pro), Gemini 2.5 (with Nano Banana), FLUX.2 pro and FLUX.1 Kontext [pro].
You can also feed in multiple reference images to keep composition consistent across generations.
Other improvements
Photoshop 27.6 lets you send images to Firefly Boards for ideation and organization, then pull them back into Photoshop for final production. The Actions panel has been streamlined to apply common edits faster. An updated Contextual Task Bar puts the right tools in reach more quickly. A new Dynamic text feature makes text adapt automatically to shapes and paths like circles, arches and bows.
Lightroom v9.3
Lightroom’s search has been overhauled with natural language support, so you can describe what you’re looking for instead of relying on keywords. You can also build mood boards by sending Lightroom photos directly to Firefly Boards.
Adobe added new film-inspired presets to stylize your images. The Crop tool now supports panning and zooming for more precise framing. Support for new cameras and lenses also rolls out with this update.
What we think
Adobe keeps pushing AI deeper into Photoshop with each release, and 27.6 is no exception. Rotate Object is impressive in action. It identifies rotatable objects quickly and produces realistic results. Remove Distractions hits a useful middle ground, automating the cleanup while still letting you finesse what gets removed.
The model selector in generative fill is the most interesting addition for power users. Different models produce different looks, and having Firefly, Gemini and FLUX available in one workflow saves a lot of round-tripping. Lightroom users get a smaller set of changes, but natural language search and the Crop tool tweaks should speed up routine work.
Pricing and availability
Photoshop 27.6 and Lightroom 9.3 are available now. You’ll need an Adobe subscription that includes these apps to upgrade.
