Adobe is bringing its flagship video editing software to the iPhone. The Premiere app promises pro-quality tools, studio-grade audio and all the assets that you need to make powerful video editing feel effortless. It will also be free.
Power and simplicity
Adobe says that the new iPhone app will deliver the power of Premiere but with the simplicity creators need. It will have the multi-track timeline with vibrant colors and dynamic audio waveforms that anyone familiar with Premiere on desktop will recognize.
You will be able to trim, layer and fine-tune with frame-accurate precision with an app built for mobile. Premiere for iPhone will also offer automatic captions with stylized subtitles as well as unlimited video, audio and text layers.
4K HDR
The Premiere for iPhone app will support editing with 4K HDR video. You will be able to apply motion effects to slow down or speed up your clips, either using presets or doing it your way. The app will also offer instant background removal so you can cut out subjects with one tap. This is ideal for overlays and title effects.
In addition, you can add animated captions and apply Adobe Lightroom color presets to grade your videos. With advanced clip controls, you can flip, freeze, fit, fill and reverse your shots to customize every cut.
AI features
With Premiere for iPhone, you can record your voice, then use AI Enhance Speech for what Adobe calls a “more pro sound”. The company says that this delivers studio-quality voice-overs. You can also turn your voice into sound effects, again using AI. Also, you can extend, enhance or even replace backgrounds using generative AI. You can generate content with Adobe Firefly as well as add AI stickers, either from the free in-app library or generated with your own prompts. However, whilst the app is free, Adobe has stated that the generative AI features require the purchase and use of Firefly generative credits.
Speed and performance
The Premiere for iPhone app is built natively on iOS for a fast, smooth editing experience. You can also easily import your assets from your favorite cloud storage provider. Importantly, Adobe promises that there will be no distracting pop-up ads, clutter or watermarks.
Free assets
Premiere for iPhone comes with a range of free creative assets from Adobe. These include over 2,000 free and royalty-free music tracks. You also get images, video and sounds. Plus, you get access to over 100 free Adobe Fonts to match your creative vision.
What we think
Anyone who uses Adobe Premiere Pro on their desktop will be excited by the prospect of being able to use the same app on their iPhone. The features that Adobe has revealed so far promise a powerful editing experience on the go. You can shoot high-quality video, then edit on the same device as soon as you wrap. The number of video tracks and the length of your edit are likely to be limited by your device’s memory. However, as the app is available for free, you can try it out to see how your iPhone handles Premiere. Hopefully, it will make editing videos on the move fun and easy.
Availability
The Premiere for iPhone app is available for pre-order from the Apple App Store now. It’s free to download and use. However, you will need to pay when you need more storage or generative AI credits.
