At this year’s Photokina, Panasonic may have announced two new mirrorless full frame cameras, but it also revealed new firmware updates for its G series.
The firmware updates Panasonic’s LUMIX DC-GH5, DC-GH5S, DC-G9, and DC-GX9 cameras and is out at the end of this month.
Improved Autofocus
The updates primarily focus on improving the cameras’ autofocus – expect for the GX9; there’s no improvement to its autofocus this time around. The firmware tackles previous issues like where the focus point was shifted into the background when tracking subjects in AFC mode. It also improves tracking performance in continuous AF and tracks the subjects even if it moves actively.
Better video recording
Additionally, the firmware improves the GH5’s video recording operation and the GH5S’ video recording performance. On the GH5, the One Push AE failed to operate when SS/Gain Operation is set to ANGLE/ISO while shooting in Creative Video M mode. This has been fixed.
As for the GH5S, the same problem above as the GH5 with the One Push AE has be fixed. But also, the camera’s image quality when using V-LogL for VFR recording in Creative Video mode has been improved. Also, the image quality when set to i.Dynamic (Intelligent Dynamic Range Control) has been improved.
Other updates
The GH5S will receive a boost to its stability during HDMI output. Finally, most all the cameras – excluding the GH5 – are getting improved operation in specific lighting conditions.
