Hi, I’m new here and new to video making. I just made a video that I want to share around on facebook / youtube etc. I uploaded the same file to both these site and the YT one plays ok but the facebook version has terrible blurry definition.

I made the video on Final Cut Pro X. The settings for the original project are: 1080p HD, 1920×1080, 50p. I tried exporting and uploading to facebook at 720p HD, 1280×720, 50p but it did not improve. The 720p file size is about 500mb.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong and how to best export this for facebook please?

Try exporting using a very high bit-rate (Mbps). Both YouTube and Facebook compress uploaded videos – Facebook’s compression is really bad. The higher the bit-rate going in, the better your results on the other side of compression. I would think that a bit-rate of 20 to 30Mbps would be a good starting point; then even higher if need be.
