ParticipantI hope that I am not asking questions that have already been answered. I am lucky enough that the total eclipse will be visible within a short distance from where I live. I believe that I should be using a solar eclipse filter on my video and still cameras (as well as on my eyes) during the partial stage but it is not necessary during the total eclipse(about 2 minutes, 30+ seconds). Is this correct? What is the reasoning behind this for the cameras? I think that I understand why my eyes should be covered. Also is there a way to shoot people with the partial eclipse in the background? During the total eclipse, I can remove the filter and shoot like I would in dark conditions, supplemental lighting on the foreground. If you have any suggestions for these conditions, I would welcome them.

ParticipantWe have a video on thedvshow.com that includes astronomer Dr. Gordon Telepun who describes his “drift method” for shooting the eclipse. Regardless of what camera you use, you will have everything you need to make videos of the upcoming eclipse. Take a look here: http://www.thedvshow.com/tips-shooting-2017-eclipse/

ParticipantBrian, thanks for the link to a very informative video. I am going to practice now and as the event gets closer. I have a screw-on solar eclipse filter for one of my video cameras and I am wondering how to remove the filter when totality occurs without disturbing my setup. I will be using a tripod.
