Okay, so I just ordered my 70d upgrading from my 60d. I plan on shooting my first short film in the coming month. I know I want to have a wide lens, but otherwise any suggestions on some solid lenses  would be awesome. I'm probably gonna spend $500 on a lens and rent the rest.

Hi Bobby, congrats on the new camera!  If I could buy only one Canon compatible zoom below $599 for filmmaking it would be the Tokina 11-16 f2.8.  Nice wide lens, good in low light.

If you don't plan to use the 70D's awesome autofocus and/or you prefer cine primes, I recommend stretching your budget by $20 for a $619 Bower 24mm T1.5. Shooters are getting very good results with these Rokinon/Samyang/Bower primes.

      Hope this is helpful!
