      Our play by play analyst wants a new microphone but he wants a single headset with it to be used in a mixer.  The camcorder we are using has 3 pin XLR.  I can't seem to find a good mic with a single headset under $100.  Am I looking in the wrong places?  Can anyone steer me in the right direction?  Thanks.

    The reason they're so expensive is that they're a specialty item made for a very limited market (i.e. broadcast). Most of the units I'm familiar with start at $250 and go up from there.

    I did come across a Stanton unit (less than $50 at Amazon) that may fit your needs but the specs on it are very limited so it's really hard to tell.

    I aggree with rs170a there a specialty item/limited market and anything cheeper will sound like it,

    is the play by play analyst going to be on camera? if not an Shure SM58 on a boom stand stand would give a much better sound for $100.

    That may be the best option.  I need to talk to him and see why he needs a single cup.  We could buy the mic, a boom and then buy some other stuff for the price of a good one of these things.

    Why not just use a Lav mic. You can get a pretty decent one for @$100.00

    Thanks for the help.  I talked the analyst into a dual headset and spent about $200 for it.  He should be happy.
