Hi! I’m new to video editing and have only ever used simple programs like Windows Movie Maker. Recently I downloaded Avidemux in hopes of gradually learning how to use it. Well, all was going well until I tried adding filters to my videos. When I add filters that modify the sound or the picture quality, they always slow down the video so that the picture moves in slow motion while the sound stays at the original speed. If anyone knows how to fix this I’d very much appreciate the help.

I don't know that product but what you are describing is GPU and RAM lag. It is a pretty typical result of adding any filter. Your computer is working away at trying to provide you with a live of your filter choice. If you like your filter choice, turn it off while you continue editing, then turn them back on before you render. Or add RAM and upgrade your video card and the problem goes away.
