MemberThere are plenty of video format converters out there but all the ones I've checked out either reduce the quality, are excessively slow or have so many "bells and whistles" in which I have no interest whatsoever. Some are even blocked from downloading by my anti-virus software.I looking for a simple single conversion program that does one thing only; convert MTS files to AVI.First prize would be if the individual clips could be converted in batch mode. Of course itcan be done in Sony Vegas pro but that's cumbersome. You will ask why convert when my editor does the job. This for other people's use who cannot read the MTS files. -

ParticipantIan, were you aware that Windows Media player will play MTS files? The version included with Windows 7 plays them perfectly if you install FFDShow codecs. This is a free open source codec package available at http://www.free-codecs.com/FFDShow_download.htm

MemberIan, I don't know of any dedicated mts to avi converter, but Movavi converter will do it.
(though I use Vegas Pro to convert my videos with the help of Vegasaur and its batch rendering capabilities 🙂

MemberHandbrake is excellent, but it doesn't create AVI files. I have already given my recommendation here, but my post was deleted…

ParticipantYou actually have many options available here and will likely have more trouble deciding which is best solution that works. Personally, I always use AppGeeker video converter, it can minimize the loss of video quality, and you can tweak the output setting for a specific need. At least, i am satify with its output result.
Here is the guide on MTS to AVI available: http://www.appgeeker.com/how-to/convert-mts-to-avi-mac.html

Participantif you are on Mac use HANDBRAKE,
if you are on PC, I suggest you try adobe's media encoder, you can batch converting files and output to avi and a lot of options.
I'd say tell ppl to use vlc player instead, much quicker way to solve the problem:)

MemberActually, there are many online apps can do the video conversion for your, such as zamzar, Acethinker Video Converter, mediaconverter, etc. They are totally free, and you don’t have to download or install anything.
