I try connecting a Canon DM-50 directional shotgun mic to my XL2's advanced accesecory shoe port, yet I hear no sound. I've attempted many combos, still can't figure it out. i'm a big newbie however if you generaly give me correct titles to things I'll be able to figure it out. Thanks so much

I don't have an XL2, but it looks like there's a setting for "SHOE" on the audio controls on the side. It looks like you'll also have to switch to 32kHz/12 bit audio by going through the menu.
