I've pulled together a few tips I've gathered from my life as a cameraman… maybe not the most original but I'd love to hear others! Check it out here: http://ukjoncollins.com/video-editor-blog/post/freelance-cameraman-hacks

Some great tips. Thanks.
Our kit includes folded black plastic trash bags in the pocket of everyone on a shoot. They're great for keeping gear dry but perhaps more importantly they are a good source of warmth. Wrap one around your torso under a sweater and you have an excellent wind-break. Sitting stationary for long periods, wrap a large bag over your legs for warmth; raining, put your legs into the bag to keep dry. One of our cameramen has a large bag he carries in his pocket into which he has cut holes for his head and arms. He wears it under his jacket as a wind-break.
