ParticipantI shoot video with 2 GoPro2's of my shark trips on the beach. I want to get a camera that can shoot good video AND take good pics so I can capture MORE of the trip. We have some sharks that jump and spin and just I want to be able to capture that and with GoPro you can't. The Sharks are anywhere from on the beach to 200-300 yards away so I need something to snap a decent pic at that range. I was loooking at the t3i but am not sure if I want to spend that much! PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE LET ME KNOW!!! Thanks!

ParticipantHey man! I have to recommend the Panasonic GH1 for an introductory camera for you. I have been using it for over 2 years and just bought a second one a week ago. The video is UNREAL and the photos form the 12.1 megapixel micro 4/3 sensor are absolutely stunning (unless you're in a real lowlight situation). I included a link to some of my favorite shots taken with the GH1 let me know what you think and if it is what you are thinking would work for your situation!

Just a few examples to check out!
I just picked up my second body used for $350.00 without a lens.
If you want with a kit lens, you are looking at around $650.00. The nice thing about micro 4/3 sensor mirorless cameras is that you can mount almost any lens ever made with an adapter because of the short distanse between the mount and the sensor!
Happy Shooting.

ParticipantI would definitely recommend the T3i. Especially with the recent announcment of the T5i. Prices should go down. Plus you could always buy used – I'm sure people are looking to upgrade.
But yeah, we mainly shoot with the T3i and our favorite features are the "Snapshot" mode and "Digital Zoom". Not to mention the video and photo quality is really good. Especially if you have a quality lens 😉
We have examples of what it can do here:
