      Hello everyone!

I would like to buy myself a new camera that would be good for filming (please do not suggest buying a camcorder). I need one that can shoot 1080p, good focusing during movement, and a couple inputs. I need a tripod input, microphone input, and sound output for earphones. My budget is $450 (temporary budget) for camera ITSELF.
Thanks everyone πŸ™‚ Have a good day!

Hi daniel – excluding camcorders, the only video capable camera you can buy for less than $1000 with a headphone jack is the Panasonic GH3.

Here is what this camera can do:

      Music Video:

      Narrative:

      Documentary:

There are many more examples on Andrew Reid's GH3 channel over on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/groups/gh3

You can get a like new, open-box GH3 body from Samy's via eBay for $599, as of this post – but you're going to have a hard time finding one for $450.

      Good luck!

This is a difficult question to answer, even though I was in your exact situation 3 months ago. What has changed? The BMPCC Summer Offer. This cut othe price of the blackmagic pocket cinema cmaera (bmpcc), which records prores and raw, by 50%' down to 495. But now it is over, and the camera costs 995 again. So I think your best choice would be the Pannasonic Lumix G6. No dslr or mirrorless camera in your price range has a headphone jack, but the G6 has a mic jack. You can also attach an external shotgun mic which has a headphone output. Unfortunately, it is not available "body-only". You have to get it with a kit lens, the 14-42. (I use a 14-42 with my BMPCC and it is quite good) This costs $650. You get a $100 BH gift card if you buy it from B&H. If this is too expensive, your next choice is Nikon's entry-level DSLR, the D3300. It also has a headphone jack, but no mic jack. It is also not available body-only, and costs $500 and includes an 18-55 lens. It also includes several free accessories if you buy it from B&H. They are: Ruggard Hunter 35 DSLR Holster Bag  SanDisk 16GB Ultra UHS-I SDHC Memory Card (Class 10)  Luminesque 52mm Circular Polarizer and UV Slim PRO Filter Kits

I hope you find this post useful! Please reply to this comment, and tell me what you end up getting. Thanks.

The GH3 IS A GOOD CAMERA FOR VIDEO. I have just ordered a used one. I will need to buy a tripod: I AM LOOKING FOR A PORTABLE TRAVEL TRIPOD THAT COULD USED WITH THE PANASONIC GH3. WHAT TYPE OF TRIPOD & FLUID HEAD CAN I BUY BETWEEN $100-200.00 THAT WILL BE STRONG ENOUGH TO USE FOR THE GH3?

You might want to try this:

      http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/842086-REG/Magnus_VT_4000_VT_4000_Tripod_System.html

Unfortunately, tripods and fluid heads can be very expensive, but there are a few cheaper options.

B&H In NYC has several options, but I suggest that you do some reading about the tripods before you decide to purchase anything.
