Better sound vs. easier use

So I have a Sennheiser 600 microphone going into my DSLR and it sounds awesome but i have to keep the input level low-ish to avoid noise. Would I be better off with a lower-quality, but higher-gain mic like the Videomic Pro? I need great sound and I assume I could get it by adding a pre-amp to the Sennheiser, but I’m done adding equipment to my kit.
So, does anyone have an opinion on whether the tradeoffs would be worth it?

      Thanks
      RS

If you’re happy with the mic (and it sounds like you are), just keep it and adjust your level accordingly. A different mic doesn’t necessarily mean better sound quality.
When you say “noise”, what do you mean? Distortion, something else?

      Mike
