I would like to invite all Chicago Area Videomakers to join me on January 17th, 2013 for an informal mixer for the purpose of meeting fellow videomaking enthusiasts to network and exchange ideas & techniques. The meeting will be conveniently located in Hinsdale, which is on the Burlington Northern train line and close to I- 290, I-294, I-88 & I-55.  I have reserved a meeting room at the Hinsdale Public Library.

I am hoping to establish a regular quarterly meeting. Assuming we get a good response, we will plan on inviting guests and/or having members provide demos/details on specific topics.

I have established the DuPage Cook Entertainment Group facebook page for a convenient place to send your confirmation of attendence.

You can also contact me here at the videomaker forum.

As you all know, doing things exclusively on your own can be a challenge. I look forward to meeting other videomakers who would be interested in collaboration on projects in addition to education.

Let's get a good Videomaker group going here in Chicago!

Thanks Mike, I know it's short notice for your magazine, but maybe you can mention it somewhere in your e-mails to subscribers.

Are you aware that there is an active videographer's association in the Chicago area?  It's called the Illinois Videographers' Association, and has been going strong for a number of years.  We have regular meetings on the third Tuesday evening of each month, usually at the Westin Chicago Northwest Hotel, 400 Park Blvd.Itasca, IL, 60143.  The website is http://www.ivavideo.com.  It is billed as an organiztion of professional videographers, but the membership includes all levels of involvement, and everyone interested in videography is welcome.  It's a great place to network and learn new things.

Thanks for your reply, John.  I think the next IVA meeting will be at the Shure headquarters in Niles on January 15.  I will pass the word about your gathering on the 17th.  I plan to attend both events.  Maybe we can get some interaction going.

John Sachanda:  I look forward to meeting you.  I forwarded our forum postings to John Zale, president of IVA and encouraged a spirit of cooperation.

Once we get these holidays done, I plan on doing some fun projects here in Chicago, starting with the Meet & Greet on Jan 17th at the Hinsdale Public Library 7-9pm. I have arranged for a Skype connection with Videomaker Magazine for a short greeting and Q&A session, so if you have a question and will be attending you can post it here. With advance notice, we can get better answers and handle more questions.

Planning on attending.  Traveling in from Northwest Indiana.  Used to live and work out in San Jose (sports broadcasting) and am now starting my own company.  Great idea guys!  Can't wait to meet people with same passion and love for video!

I have had some comments about the Illinois Videographer Association website which was referenced earlier. Both addresses are drawing problems, either malware or content errors. I am not sure what the problem is. Maybe one of the Members of the IVA can explain it. In the meantime, I do not advise visiting the sites mentioned previously in this thread. IVAvideo(.com or .org).

Things are solidifying for our get together on Jan 17th. Looks like a good group from the entire metro area. 7-9pm at the Hinsdale Public Library.

I'd like to attend on the 17th. I live in Western Springs so this will be ideal!

That must be a good one! Can anybody attend that event? I mean for example I would like to go? I think events like this one can give me great help on how to overcome fear of making real video.

      John Sachanda:

I have a couple of video friends who plan to attend your 17th gathering along with me.  Their names are Cecil Convey and Steve Jackson.

I'm sorry to see your warning about the IVA website. I notified the IVA president and vice president about it.  I am very confident that there is no malware on the site, although my Norton software sometimes blocks it, too.  I will discuss it with them at the IVA meeting Wednesday night.

Reminder about our Chicago Area Videographer Meet & Greet event this Thursday at 7-9pm Hinsdale Public Library. I will be there early so come when you can. The event will be in the Storytime room at the Hinsdale Public Library, which is conveniently located a short walk from the Hinsdale Metra Train stop. Anyone coming from the city can catch the Burlington Northern at Union Station.

The Hinsdale Film Society is meeting that night in the large meeting room, so don't be confused by that group.

Videomaker Magazine has sent me some great door prizes, so it will be worth the trip if nothing else. We will also Skype Videomaker Magazine during the event for a brief update and Q & A. Don't forget to submit is you have any specific questions you want answered live.

Be sure to sign up for the Dupage Cook Entertainement Group on facebook. That will be a good way for us to keep in touch about projects and share tips etc. http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/185599768170515/

I want to thanks everyone who came to our Meet & Greet and to Videomaker Magazine for providing some great door prizes. We had a great time, which ended too soon. Looks like the reviews call for a sequel so stay tuned for the next event.

John, thanks for this info. I had come across this group before, but completely forgot about it. I will certainly look into membership. Perhaps, you or a few others can come to my event and talk about the association. Hopefully, my event will attract other non- IVA indiviudals. In the meantime, we are still putting out the call for our event on Jan 17, 7pm at the Hinsdale Public Library.

I just got an email from John Zale, and he corrected me on the next meeting date for IVA.  The usual date is the third Tuesday of each month, but the next one will be Wednesday, January 16 at the Shure headquarters in Niles.  He also said he would update the IVA website this weekend, so current information should be available next week for anybody who is interested.  Also, the website is http://www.ivavideo.org, not http://www.ivavideo.com.

oscardesker, the event is definitely open to everyone. I am sure there will be plenty of people willing to help you with your obstacles to making videos. I also expect that you can make contacts to join in on group productions. That will be a great way to get some hands on experience as part of a team. This event in conveniently located just a few hundred feet from the Hinsdale Metra train station for anyone coming from the city. Just take the Burlington Northern at Union Station, which is a few blocks from the L stop at Jackson & Franklin. It is also close to I-55, I-294, I-290  & I-88. Ogden ave exit on 294, County Line Rd off 55, York Rd or Rt 83 off 88/290

John, that for spreading the word. Looking forward to meeting you & friends. Looks like a good turnout coming. I am glad the IVA will look into the web site issues, that could be a turnoff to new members as well as potential clients.
