Inactive'Good Neighbours Stop Rogue Traders' national campaignPrize: The winner will receive £1,000 and their video will be shown by trading standards offices throughout the country to communities as part of an educational campaign.Brief: The levels of doorstep crime are vastly under reported but our latest research shows there could be as many as 170,000 incidents each year where rogue traders try to illegally extract money from consumers in their homes. Rogue traders who cold call at the homes of elderly and vulnerable people to carry out property maintenance work keep trading standards officers across the UK fully occupied. The Trading Standards Institute (TSI) takes action against them through the courts when they can, but one of their priorities is to make it as difficult as possible for the rogues to succeed. The good news is, you can help. The aim of the 'Good Neighbours Stop Rogue Traders' film competition is to encourage friends, family, carers and community members to prevent doorstep crime by watching out for their neighbours. A second aim is for these individuals to report doorstep crime or suspicious activity to local trading standards offices as a means to make neighbourhoods safer. The more intelligence trading standards receives regarding this type of crime, the greater chance the TSI has of tackling the most prolific offenders.Videos can be no longer than 90 seconds.More information and official rules: http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/events/VideoCompetition.cfm
