What does 1/2.7″ sensor mean ?

      I have seachered the web, asked the highly skilled technicians at both Circuit City and Best Buy, but cannot find out what the values given to sensor size mean. 1/2.7″, or 1/3.9″, …etc.

      I’m sure the basic fundemental’s are true “bigger is better”, but as a first order guideline what’s in the numbers?

      yes the bigger the sensor the better, the numbers indicate the size of the chip inside the camera, CMOS or CCD, Why bigger is better is because the chip can hold more information, so a bigger chip will result in better, and brighter colors.
