I am looking for a stand alone DVD recoder. Any advice for a good one selling for less than $300?
WalMart carries, or used to, a Sylvania model, and several other choices ranging well under your limits. Assuming by “stand-alone” you are referring to those units offering VHS to DVD, and back, dubbing capabilities, as well as either firewire or RCA analog I/O for recording from other sources. I’ve used Philips units as well as an RCA, but have had less aggravation with the Sylvania (it’s made by a name brand manufacturer, but I do not remember who).
If you are talking about those that plug into your camera to offload video in the field as part of your workflow, like from Panasonic or JVC, Amazon sells them at a fair price
