I am editing with Pinnacle Studio Plus 9.4, Is there a reason not to use LP Speed on my JVC Mini DV Camera and get an hour and a half on a Mini DV Tape? The JVC book says that the editing functions in the camera wouldn’t work but I would be just using it for aquisition. Is the quality reduced?
I am taping a class reunion and could use the capacity.

For God’s sake, don’t use LP! Tapes are so darn cheap now!

I’ll try ehe experiment. I think low light movement is the biggest test.
My JVC GR-DV2000U is a pain. It is a bottom loader & you have to remove the tripod disconnect plate to change tape. I don’t care what bargans are available, this is my last bottom loader.
This has little to do with tape price; Also try Sam’s Club for great pricing.

I use LP speed 75% of the time when I shoot with my GL2. There is no quality difference between SP and LP. There is also no problems with capturing or editing (Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5.1). The timecode is perfect and the speed of the video is the same. So shooting in LP mode should be fine. Only stay away from those 80/120 min MiniDV tapes, because I believe the tape is thinner…

I never use LP speed for tape. Don’t know if it cause problems on drive system or what ever.
I used to use a Sharp video 8 analogue camera until my wife got me a JVC digital camera. The picture quality is supurb over the old video8 BUT, who the hell uses all the crap they build into these things. I don’t need all the video effects or wipes and fades. What a waste. What happened to the simple switches to change from auto to manual. Now you have to put on your magnafying glasses and go through a bucket load of menues just to turn auto focus on or off.!!!!!
I too have bottom enty for the tapes and it’s a pain. I use a higher capacity bettery and it fits right in the palm of the hand whichmakes it too awkward to hold. Darn camera is too damn small and the sound quality is pathetic. Camera looks stupid and too front heavy with an external mike.
Saving up for something a lot better and bigger.
Don’t get me wrong, its a great present, but it’s too small for my hands. It’s perfect for my wife.

Wow ! some us do use those stupid ” in “camera editing software..
with alittle experementing youll’ be amazed…..
infact you can double and troulbe layer effects If you learn how .
With very good effects
Anyway , LP speed does matter, just depends what your filming,
and for what …
well For MOST apps it won’t matter ..
Ex: sports Vs flowers growing and if you use hi low speeds
even in capture to PC.
