I recently acquired a Sony BVW-22 Beta SP “Office” player. We purchased it used with the intent of viewing and archiving some old footage before the tapes became unwatchable. We got an awesome deal on it (we have invested less than $30 in it), and it worked for a while, but it recently has begun eating tapes, and giving an error code “03” (Tape slack). Other than the above mentioned problems the machine is very clean and appears to be in excellent condition. Can anyone speak to the reliability of these machines and whether it would be worth investing several hundred dollars in getting it checked out and repaired? In looking online, I see that the “asking price” for a verified working unit is about $2000. Is this a reasonable price for a unit such as this?
