Shooting A Documentary Need The Best Cam

I’m a comic that’s shooting a documentary of me doing comedy 8 hours a day 5 days a week over the next 5 years. I’ve settled on the mac mini as the computer for the project. I’ve settled on the i-movie as a sufficient post production software. But as far as filming goes i kinda hit a wall…..I was thinking of going the flip cam route (as it being cheap and having good picture but I’ve read alot of reviews and have gathered that it would not be able to handle the weekly duty) I would greatly appreciate anybody’s response on what you think would be the best camcorder for the project under 500 dollars. thanks

Definitely get something better than the Mac Mini and Imovie if you want to do any sort of real editing. I would recommend a mackbook pro at least or save some money and go the PC route and get a laptop with at least an i5. I would go premiere for the editing though Ive used it since i started 7 years ago and have found it to be extremely stable, in depth, and customizable. Check ebay for a used or new canon HFS100 i had one of those a few years back and the picture it put out for such a small camera was impressive to say the least. I believe they are going for between 4-600 now.

Thanks Tyler For the info. I wanna shoot the doc on the subway with a camcorder. That’s legal right?

Not a problem! And im not the person to ask on that you’d have to look into local bylaws and other legalities to see if you are able to film without a permit.
