Any suggestions on using reflectors in indoor or outdoor shooting? Recommendations for size and/or type? Thanks!

      I use white foam core. They’re cut to about 2′ X 3′

      Check out: http://www.videomaker.com/article/9348/

This reflector was one of the first accessories I purchased (not counting my VHS years): https://www.videomaker.com/shop/videomaker-reflector.html – got it at a NAB Post show in NY and still use it today!

I bought a large diameter disc reflector, white on the other side, and I bought a tripod and arm to hold it. I’ve used it indoors for fill light. Outdoors it’s been amazing for reflecting light on talent, or background, on the ground as imitation water reflection, and over top of talent to block to block intense sunlight. I never leave home without it!

I also made a 2×3 reflector from using a thick foam core poster that was white on the back. I spray glued foil onto the front of the poster.

Foam core is a winner. An umbrella is also very useful for distributing soft light widely for fill. Lowel makes good ones and I’ve seen DYI umbrellas using a real rainy day umbrella lined with aluminum foil. It’s pretty harsh for indoor lighting but works well for highlights outdoors.

Indoors the ceiling or a light colored wall, lit by a softbox, works very well. So does a white sheet hung on an off-camera wall.

I also use sunshades, cheap and always with me. I also have a white car and have occasionally move it into position as a reflector on outdoor shoots. Thanks for the bi-fold door idea Don.

I use foam core also. I have white, red, yellow, and green. You can get creative with a little color in your reflection.
