Need advice to decide on purchase of a semi-pro DV camcorder which is going to be used for teaching audio-visual production and journalism classes to undergrads.
So far, I’ve shortlisted the foll:
– Canon GL2 mini DV
– Sony PD 150
– Sony VX 2100
Tell me what you think of these? Any other models you can suggest?
That’s easy. Serious mainstream work requires XLR inputs to meet professional audio standards. That would be the PD-150. All of these cams deliver excellent visuals. Even when on camera mikes deliver great audio (and I and my musician friends are more than O.K. with the audio results from my VX2100), XLR provides lots more flexibility and cuts out a layer of interface gear.

Thanks for the advice. In fact, I just saw that the BBC uses the PD150 for training.
go the 170 instead of the 150 better low light, and more audio flexibility
