Sorry if this has been discussed before, but on another digital video forum it seems to have caused a slight raucus. It seems someone has found language regarding the
MPEG-2 patent notice on the bottom of page 5 (in ALL CAPS no less) of the USA manual. Any Use Of This Product Other Than Consumer Personal Use In Any Manner That Complies With The Mpeg-2 Standard For Encoding Video Information For Packaged Media Is Expressly Prohibited Without A License Under Applicable Patents In The Mpeg-2 Patent Portfolio, Which License Is Available From A Mpeg La, L.l.c., 250 Street, Suite 300, Denver, Colorado 80206

It seems some are speculating that if you make your own dvds and sell anywedding dvds, movies, etc, you have been doing so illegallyunless you have paid for the MPEG-2 rights. :'(

Is this all a bunch of nonsense; if not, has this magazine discussed this important detail??

That’s my thinking too. I just didn’t know if this was a copyright or patent infringement issue which was going to rear its ugly head at some point IF someone would sell mass quantities of their dvd production–better safe than sorry.

MPEG stands for Motion Pictures Expert Group. GROUP. It was developed by a team, not 1 person. If this team wanted $$$, they would have stated so.
