moving buttons?

In my project, I’m trying to make it look like the icon moves from one selection to another instead of having that highlighted setup that they’ve got.

I have tried to make an image be in the ‘selected’ slot of the button, but Encore just washes it out with a solid color.

I have also tried to make the ‘unselected’ layer disappear to show the icon on the background image, but I then found out that the ‘selected’ layer is an overlay instead of turning off the unselected layer and turning on the selected layer.

I hope someone can help me on this. I got a huge headache from this. Thanks.
