I was curious about the differnt quality of tapes made by panasonic. the tape that came with my new dvx 100b is the master amq series. I was wandering if i needed to stay with the exact tape or if it was ok to get different tapes by panasonic?

Once you use one tape stock (brand or type) never switch!

Tape stock online has a nice explanation of the master AMQ series

While going thru old posts, I ran across this one. I visited the link provided but didn’t get any explanation to the statement made: "Once you use one tape stock (brand or type) never switch!". That’s something I’ve never heard before. Could you please elaborate on that as it doesn’t make sense to me. Is that an actual fact or an opinion?

Different tape brands will wear off bits of the tape in different ways. If you keep changing brands, chances are your camera or deck will get all gunked up and you’ll start seeing glitches on playback or during recording. Try and stick with one brand the entire time (I use TDK because they are cheap, I can get a 10 pack for $25) and if you have to change brands for some reason, clean your tape heads before doing so.
