I will likely be trying to edit many different finished DVDs from others into one short montage with Vegas Movie Studio. How should I instruct these other parties on the appropriate format or the best format in which to send their video files? I won’t receive anything on tape of any sort.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, as I’m very new to this. Any insight would be helpful.

Raw AVI on DVD+/-R would be best – If they just make video DVD’s you’ll have to grab or capture MPEG-2 files and they are not as high quality as the AVI. However, be aware that raw AVI runs about 13GB/hour so be prepared for lots of discs.
