I’ve been looking to purchase a camcorder for a while and am looking for a little advice. The budget is about $600 and I think would like to stay with the minidv format. I’m not looking to break out in Hollywood just decent quality movies – we just had our first child and would like some moving memories in addtion to stills.

I have read good things about Panasonic, but I read disappointment with lack of certain features and also lack of minidv models. Is the panny PVGS 250 decent? I have seen a few for sale yet but not many. I havent even delved into cannon, or sony so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
