      Hi,
I’ve been looking for an HD recorder in reasonable price range. Just few years ago in SD times there were many devices where you could just plug signal in and record whatever you whanted. Today I can’t find any device with hdmi or sdi input to record HD signal. Datavideo and Blackmagic desing makes professional hdd hd recorders but prices are to high for me. Does anyone know about some product with capability to record HD? I don’t mean set-top boxes which records MPEG from antena I need plug my own signal in. (HDMI, SDI or Composite). Thanks
BTW: I’m not any kind of television pirate, I’m professional and I need somehow to record our multicamera production, I’m currently using PCI-e SDI card but computer recording is not very mobile and confortable. In this economy I just can afford to buy 3000 dolar recorder πŸ™

http://www.atomos.com/ $995 for the Ninja at BHphoto.com Very popular recorder.

EDIT: Not sure why the atomos link wont work directly from here, I have retyped it 20 times – but if you look it up the website is there.

Yeah I’ve noticed this one few days ago, looks very good. Unfortunetly in my country (central europe) it costs almost twice that much πŸ™ . I had in mind some really cheap non-professional recorders for ordinary customers. I guess they don’t make these any more. I probably have to buy this one from abroad to safe some money. Thanks anyway

I use this for my television to computer recording: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116030&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-TVTunersDevices-_-NA-_-NA Composite cables would be needed, but it DOES record in HD (to AVCHD or MPEG stream)- may be a pain to deal with from a camera perspective, but if the $ is tight the options are limited.

As far as straight HDMI recording, good luck finding that in the consumer market. They don’t exist for a reason.

I now they are not making them probably because of piracy issues. I just wanted to be sure that I have not overlooked something. I’ve also read about device you posted. Its a nice device but it needs a computer. As I posted before I’m currently using SDI card in my computer to record HD but I need more mobile solution. We do a lot of traveling and computers are big and they can be unreliable. Anyway thanks a lot I will be considering atomos recorder !
