hd in standard format?

I film my sons basketball games, andI am moving to a HD sony camera, but a lot of my family do not own blue ray players yet. Is it possible to transfer the footage gathered on a HD camcorder to a standard DVD disc? Do I need to tell the family to buy blue ray? Is it worth it to go HD yet?

“Down-converting” is the term you are asking about. It is absolutely possible to down-convert HD to SD, and it’s very common.

Shoot in HD. Edit your footage in an HD project. Export and HD Master. Then down-convert your HD master for DVD.
