Lately I’ve been having this problem with MPEG-2 encoding in Studio 9.4: in the Make Movie section, I select MPEG-2 DVD compatible (and make no other changes in the settings), then I render and tadaaaa (!) .
The resulting file plays just fine until the last 15-20 seconds, and that’s when it gets jerky. It looks something like a slow-motion effect. It does that on any MPEG-2 file (I use the Pegasus codec, provided with Pinnacle), no matter what length, but never with other file types.
At first I kind of liked it, it made a good end for vids X-D , but now it really looks like a problem.
I have the latest version already, and I defrag regularly.
So will anyone please enlighten me here?

I installed Studio Plus a few months ago. At the time, the 9.3.5 patch was available, and I updated with success. Shortly thereafter, the 9.4.1 patch came out. I started reading the Pinnacle Studio forums before I installed this patch, and BOY OH BOY were there lots of postings from people with problems. Then Pinnacle put out the 9.4.2 patch, but from what I read on the forums, it didn’t help much. The 9.4.3 patch recently came out, but I don’t have a feel for its stability.

I have NOT gone past 9.3.5 due to the many postings of the 9.4.x problems. I’m sure there were many people who have kept up with the latest patches with no problems, but the consensus I got from the Studio user forums is: stay with 9.3.5, it’s the most stable for now.

Did you have any problems with 9.3.5? If not, you may want to revert back to it. If you’re using Win XP but didn’t set a restore point when going from 9.3.5 to 9.4.x, you’d have to uninstall and re-install Studio, and patch up to 9.3.5. By the way, there are recommended ways of uninstalling and re-installing, including using the Studio “Reg Cleaner” or “Reg Fix”, whatever they call it. Go to Studio’s support page and search for how to uninstall and re-install.

Or you may not have to go to such extremes. Many Studio users are extremely knowledgable and helpful in the Studio user forums. Go to http://www.pinnaclesys.com then support -> User Discussion Forums, choose Consumer Webboard, Studio Version 9. You may then even try doing a search for your topic once you’re there, or post a new topic. I wouldn’t be suprised if you got a very quick and helpful answer.

I’m very curious if you had this problem with version 9.3.5, before going to 9.4.

No, the 9.4 version came on my CD. I patched it with 9.4.1, 9.4.2 and 9.4.3 and I think the original, unpatched version caused me no problem.
      Thanks for your input, jla930.
I’m gonna try to output the file as AVI and the encode it to MPEG-2 using TMPGEnc. But it’s using the same MPEG-2 codec as Pinnacle (Pegasys) and plus, I’m not sure it’s fully compatible for DVD burning.

Do yourselves a favor and step up to another level! Hey I think Studio is great! I started out using Studio 7 and I upgraded to Studio 8! But from time to time I would experience problems that just drove me crazy! Patch after Patch after Patch and there is still problems! I came upon this forum and saw lot’s of post of people having the same problem as me some even worse! If you’re just doing video for a hobby then you may be able to manage with the problems! But if you’re doing it for clients or you’re tired of the headache’s step up!!

I finally deciced to try a Professional software! After getting, and reading suggestions I decided to go with Vegas! WOW!!! There are so many things you can do with this software that I still haven’t done it all! Most of all though I have experienced 0 problems!!!! From time to time i would experience Burn problems with Studio! I have had no problems Burning DVD’s. Vegas is not the only software out there but for the price and the Unlimited abilities and peace of mind – GO FOR IT!!!!
