For those in the Wedding/Event video business, what do you tell clients when asked about how long the DVD will last? I’ve heard that writeable DVDs don’t have the same lifespan of an off-the-shelf DVD of a theatrical film, but are there some types or brands that are more long-lasting?
One of the main factors is the write speed. The laser has to change the dye layer. The faster the disc is written, the less time the laser has time to do this. I do all my write speeds at 4X, thus allowing the dye layer to switch properties to the highest level.
Hank – What 2 manufacturerers are they? What name do the disks go by?
