DVD back to avi editing

I ‘m new to this forum and need some help. A dvd that I made has come back in need of new editing and of course the one time I delete the master is the one time I need it back. My question, Is there a way to retrieve the video out of the ts file and convert it back to avi without too much quality loss? I’ll be looking forward to your answers. Thank-you
