InactiveIs blacking your DV tapes necessary 😕 What is the purpose? 😕
Obviously a newby, and need to understand what it is I’m doing and what for.

InactiveBlacking tapes prevents the appearance of drops, hiccups etc. during the shoot, but more important, sets the time base correctly in case it were wrong (this can happen when you put a tape in the camcorder, then eject it without having recorded anything, then you put the tape back in and record).

GuestBlacking the tape is a good idea if you want to have a continuous timecode ie. 0:00:00 -1:00:00 with no breaks.

The recommended number of re-records to a miniDV tape is 5, everything above that number is at your own risk anyway. But most people only record once on each tape, so why should blanking be a problem?
