Personal computers (PCs) have become common due to their versatility and portability for example laptops and notebooks. It is natural that PCs have found their applications in virtually all walks of life. When it comes to sound recording, the task of recording sound first on the media and then transferring it to a platform for editing or embedding can be inconvenient for amateur users who do not require the use of sophisticated equipment. Rode has provided their Podcaster USB Broadcast Microphone for such type of users.
Powered by USB, the RØDE Podcaster Broadcase Mic brings high quality sound recording to your PC. Fully compatible with modern computer operating systems (OS), the Podcaster can be used with Microsoft’s Windows Vista and Windows 7, Mac OS X and even with certain OS from Linux and it comes with a full 10 year warranty.
As the device is USB powered, it does not need a battery nor requires any recording media. The audio is converted into digital sound internally within the microphone and the converted data recorded directly onto a PC. Since the Podcaster performs the audio conversion, the output is always of high quality regardless of the hardware installed in the PC. The device comes with a 3 meter long USB cable that is sufficiently long to provide freedom to the user in to set up the microphone on different stands while connected to the computer.
To get a real time output of the sound as it is being recorded, the Podcaster has been provided with an output port for headphones. There is virtually no time delay or lag between the sound input and the output, thus eliminating any chance of creating echo effect.
The frequency response of the device closely resembles what a human ear perceives thus giving you a lifelike sound output. Quality vise, the conversion of the audio is at 18-bit resolution at 48 kilohertz sampling frequency thus providing you a high quality broadcast sound. The Podcaster is suitable for both casual users and professionals. Professionals can use the RM2 ring mount or the optional PSM1 shock mount and PSA1 boom arm with the microphone, while casual users can use the iPad camera connection kit to use it with their Apple iPad applications.
