Those longing for the features of Blackmagic Design’s (nearly) $1,000 DaVinci Resolve 12 Studio take heart — the Resolve 12 version is now available as a free public beta. Compatible with Mac and PC, this is a professional editing system for projects in standard-, high- and ultra HD-definition and its enhanced color correction and finishing capabilities was first described at the NAB show earlier this year.

4K cameras needn’t be big or bulky, at least not if you’re handling Z Camera’s E1 4K UHD Interchangeable lens camera. The E1 is the first 4K small form factor camera and has a die cast magnesium housing, 2000mAH customized battery and a weight of less than a ½ pound.

Samsung thinks that their virtual reality thriller, “Gone,” will do just that. It’s designed to be viewed through the Gear VR — a VR headset, which uses a Samsung smartphone as the delivery mechanism for viewing video.

Panasonic this week announced some all-new cameras, including a new mirrorless flagship, the 4K capable LUMIX DMC-GX8 (GX8). The GX8 is their latest Digital Single Lens Mirrorless camera, or DSLM. Also announced is the DMC-FX300 4K zoom camera.

But "Terminator Genisys: The YouTube Chronicles in 360" isn’t part of the new movie "Terminator: Genisys" or something to see at a theme park, but instead is a YouTube/Paramount presentation that can be accessed on the Internet.

Convergent Design has announced a significant firmware update for their Odyssey lineup of monitor/recorders. The update, for the Odyssey7, the Odyssey7Q, and the Odyssey7Q+, includes updated third party SSD support, camera-specific LUTs, fixes, improvements and much more.
