Vision Research Goes 3D with New High Speed Camera: The Phantom v640

Just when you thought things couldn't really get any cooler at NAB, the people at Vision Research somehow surprise you. As everyone expected, this year's NAB show was centered around 3D but few people really thought they'd be making 3D at 1,500 frames per second. Even so, Vision Research just revealed their new 3D super high frame rate camera joining together two Phantom v640s. There's not a lot of word on if they still intend to make a camera that has two lenses with one body, but even so, the potential is enormous. The Phantom v640 can shoot at 1,500 frames per second all while keeping the whopping resolution of 2560×1600. This means that by joining two of these monsters, Vision Research has now given the filmmaking world a whole new tool to put in its arsenal. At the show, they were showing a saw cutting into wood at 1,500 fps in 3D and if the footage itself wasn't cool enough, the 3D aspect made it even more spectacular. No word on pricing, but we can probably rest assured that it is almost entirely out of range for the typical video enthusiast, but that doesn't stop us from wanting one any less.
