Adobe After Effects is Updated Through the Creative Cloud Giving More Creativity and Improved Functions

Adobe updates After Effects (12.2)

Last week Adobe announced major updates to Adobe Creative Cloud, in particular, updates surrounding their video apps. While the majority of the updates centered around Adobe Premiere Pro, there was mention that Adobe After Effects would be receiving updates in the not too distant future as part of the December 2013 release. The updates for Adobe After Effects were not far behind at all and were released on Friday, December 13.

Adobe After Effects Updates

Many of the updates found in the latest release of Adobe After Effects (12.2) are long requested features from After Effects users. Users now have the option to create shapes as Bezier Paths with the shape tool. Likewise, a shape layer created with the shape tool can also be converted into a Bezier Path. However, if a shape is animated before it's converted to a Bezier Path, the Bezier Path will remain static and take the form of the shape at the selected frame on conversion.

Snapping is a feature that receives attention in the latest update. Improvement includes a "selectable" snapping point on shape layers. With snapping selected, a user can click on a shape path and the point where the user clicked will be the point which After Effects uses to align the layer when snapping in proximity to another layer. Users are now able to snap lights and cameras together for much easier alignment between the two.

A welcome change, especially for users who fall under the Adobe Creative Cloud license and take advantage of the periodic updates, is that user's settings will now migrate to any released updates. These settings include: preferences, workspaces, render settings templates, output module templates, keyboard shortcuts, and user scripts. Another new feature related to settings is the ability of users to create file name and location templates for output. Auto-save is enabled by default in the newest After Effects update, a sure time saver to anyone who has ever lost work through system crashes.

There are several more minor features and updates, as well as several bug fixes. The Adobe Creative Cloud subscription allows users to update Adobe After Effects as more features and updates are released.
