DJI today announced the launch of the Zenmuse X5 and the Zenmuse X5R aerial cameras, designed for use with the Inspire 1 professional aerial camera platform. With a micro four thirds (M4/3) camera capable of 16 megapixel photos as well as 4K, 24 fps and 30 fps video, its clear to see why DJI are describing the X5 series as the “next evolution of aerial camera technology”.
Many have been speculating since the release of the a7R II earlier this year that Sony would soon be releasing the a7S II. From IBC 2015 Amsterdam, Sony Electronics today introduced the latest addition to their a7 lineup with the a7S II. Offering High Sensitivity up to ISO 409,600, 5-Axis Image Stabilization and Internal 4K Recording.

A lens’s optical characteristics can’t be determined at face value — that’s why it’s important for a manufacturer to note these distinctions with as much clarity and pomp as possible. But why should anyone care that Canon’s new technology reduces color fringing in their EF 35mm f/1.4 L II USM lens? Because chromatic aberration is an undesirable type of distortion causing a lens to fail at focusing all colors at the same convergence point; the result being to manifest itself as “fringes” of color along those boundaries separating dark and bright parts of an image.
