Working with the Magnetic Timeline in Final Cut Pro X

Working within the Final Cut timeline is a bit of a different experience if you're used to other editing software. In part three of our six part Final Cut Pro X training series we start a new rough cut and work with append edits, insert edits, and overwrite edits to arrange our clips on the magnetic timeline.

WOW... this "tutorial" is an utterly unbelievable MESS!! The chatter is completely unfocused and ALL OVER THE MAP. This truly demonstrates the classic addage "You get what you pay for" (hoping there is not actually a PAID version of this bs!!).

- Using "automatic settings without even explaining the ANY details on the options??

- Things like "hit *control*-z" for an undo??

- Going to THE MENU for every single edit without referenceing the THREE BUTTONS so much as ONCE until minute SEVEN??

- Calling it a "storyline" when it's in fact A PROJECT?? The grey area is the storyline, not the whole thing!

- Saying "I'm gonna go here... then here... and here... and THIS on... and this..." WHAT?? Have you ever taught a day in your life??

- "I hit append and it MAKES it to the end"?? Huh?? ANY clue what actual editing jargon is?? You call yourself an editor and can't even edit together a simply, *comprehensible* tutorial??

- An overwrite SPLITS the edit?? What?? No, it does NOT!

- Nervous, aimless waving of the cursor... wow...

- HALF explain one thing and explain the rest FIVE MINUTES LATER... huh??

- Go to edits... then to keywords... back to editing... to smart collection (only wasting 3 words on each)... suddenly SECONDARY storylines... to SNAPPING.... aaaaaahhhhrrrgghhhh....

And on and on and on and on... un-effing-believable.

Do yourself and the world a favor and DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME from now on. There are a plethora of REAL trainings out there that are actually helpful and STRUCTURED so one can actually follow along for longer than 10 seconds!
