Well, behind me you can see a fake fire. This time on VidCast, we’ll show you how to do this effect without having to burn down a real house. To do this effect, we used particle illusion to make our fake fire and the background smoke. Our first step was to open up Adobe Premier and grab the screenshots of our window. Then, we blackened out the window in Photoshop so that we can overlay our fake fire.

By adding another darkened copy of the window on top of the original, we can trim it down to give the background a look of smoke for our fire by using the erase tool. Going back to Premier, we now have the capability to overlay our window with the blackened out version and add our fire over the top of it. Now, we have a window that has erupted in flames.

For our shot where the subject ran in front of the window, we have to create our fire behind the action. We did this by using Photoshop to create a layer over each individual frame, which allowed us to add the motion of our subject accurately in front of our fire. After applying our layers, the fire looked much more realistic behind our subject. We added foley of a fire, and now our illusion is complete.
