Does my network connection matter?
All you need is a broadband (e.g. 300kbps or faster, preferably 768kbps or faster) connection. It doesn't matter what provider you use or what media (e.g. DSL, cable, community wireless, satellite, T-carrier, fiber, etc.) over which your connection comes to you.
What are the minimum hardware requirements?
For PCs, any 1.6GHz or faster system will work well. For Macs, any 800MHz or faster G4, G5 or Intel-based system will work well.
What software is known to play Videomaker Presents vidcasts?
Players known to work for the downloadable version include QuickTime Player version 7 and higher and VLC (formerly VideoLAN Client) on both Windows 2000/XP and MacOS X. The streaming versions on www.videomaker.com/vidcast are encoded as Windows Media 8.
What software is known to have problems playing Videomaker Presents vidcasts?
In our experience, Windows Media Player may complain that it can't find the necessary codec for playback when you try to play back the H.264 (downloadable) versions of Videomaker Presents.
You didn't mention whether it works with my favorite player.
There are a number of players that we have not tested--if you are partial to a player we haven't mentioned here, please give it a try and send a report to us at editor@videomaker.com (please put "Vidcast Playback Report" as the subject line.) How to download the Vidcast via iTunes
Why should I subscribe to the Videomaker Presents Vidcast via iTunes?
When you use iTunes to subscribe to our vidcast you will be automatically informed when a new vidcast episode is available through the iTunes application. You can change iTunes&' settings so that it will automatically download the newest episodes to your computer. In this way, podcasts differ from video streaming, in that you can download podcasts automatically and streaming video can't be downloaded or alert you when new episodes become available.
Vidcasts are the best way to insure you get every episode we produce. Download iTunes for free at http://www.apple.com/itunes
Why download the Vidcast via iTunes
The delivery method for streaming video allows almost instantaneous playback of the video stream (depending on your Internet connection speed). However, you can’t download it or randomly access certain parts of the video file as easily as you can with a downloadable video (i.e., the Vidcast via iTunes). The Vidcast also has these additional advantages when downloaded via iTunes:
- Easier file management with automatic downloading of new episodes
- More flexibility as the playback window can scale to any size you like
- Higher quality video, which means it’s enjoyable to view on TV monitors
- More mobility: vidcast files can be backed-up or stored on mobile devices (e.g., video iPod)
