HDMI out speculation

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether you could convert the stream from a mini hdmi out port (VG 20) for storage on a 1 Tb usb 3 portable hdd? I've seen a few converters around but they seem to be designed to work the other way around for TVs. Is there a flow direction to these converters?

Well you would need something to write the data to the drive, buffer and keep up. I think we are stuck with the external capture drives that are on the market or something like the Black magic shuttle to a laptop.
