The problem with family videos is they are usually unnecessarily long. As a result of this, they are unnecessarily boring. The easiest way to make better family or home videos is by using good video editing to keep the story short and sweet.
It’s rare you’ll find an audience who wants to watch every second of your child’s birthday party, or to view each agonizing step you took in line at Disneyland. Most people just want to see the exciting parts. Think of your family video as a highlights reel; only the best footage gets to stay in the edited version. Remember, even with family videos you’re telling a story, so be sure to keep the story moving forward.
If you’re still having a hard time letting go of excess footage, try making two versions; one for you, and one for your audience. By keeping your family videos short and sweet your audience will not only be entertained, but they will be happy you shared the experience with them.
