I have been working with video production now for a few years and by no means i am a professional. It all started just goofing around and then start video taping weddings. The most difficult and time consuming process is editing.
I have been checking out the video switching mixers and i have a few questions that you may able to help.

    - If i use a video mixer, how can i transfer the mixing data (both audio and video) from 2 or 3 cameras directly to my Mac computer so i can save time when editing? Do i need a video converter using a fire wire that will patch to my IMAC?

I do not have HD camera at this time…I use Sony DV-vx2100 3-CCD cameras.
    Thanks
    John

What we used to do is take the feed of our mics and cameras, plug directly into a mixer and then output that into the switcher or capturing device depending on what you have. The video mixed would stay as our final edit and it worked the same way. So yes, to answer your question your mac will be used primarily as your final landing zone for the live mix. If you are using DV cams it should be easier to synch the live footage when working remotely and a firewire will do
