Check out Openfilm.com
There’s a new online sharing site that we think will be worth your time to check out: Openfilm.com
What separates Openfilm.com, from other online video sharing sites, is that it is a site that’s made by filmmakers for filmmakers. This means that its an online sharing site for people who care about the craft of making video.
The first thing I like about Openfilm.com is that there is a screening process. While anyone can upload to the site, not everything makes the cut. So that handheld shot of your baby throwing up might not make the cut, but your little comedy skit about parenting probably will. The strategy behind this is to just take the cream of online video, and leave quantity to places like YouTube. This also has the added effect of making it a place that is fun to get in and just surf around for good videos.
The second thing I like is that they want your video to look good. As filmmakers themselves, they’ve seen what can happen when your masterpiece is resized down to 320×240 and compressed unmercifully into a muddy mess. Openfilm.com allows you to share video at 640×360, all the way up to HD 1280×720, with no limits on duration. If your file size is to large to upload (more than 2GB), just send them a DVD and they will encode it for you. They really seem to want your video too look as good as you do.
The third thing I like about Openfilm.com, is that they make you feel like they’re in your corner. They really want your video to be successful. One way they directly get involved is in creating custom made show logos and flash banners for you by their designers. Also a very much overlooked customization option is thumbnail controls, so you can chose which thumbnails (and even multiple thumbnails) represent your video best. I hate it when the computer chooses a thumbnail frame just because it’s in the middle, never mind that it could be mid-dissolve, or during a pan, making your thumbnail a nasty mess.
Openfilm.com also offers a 50/50 revenue split on any advertising attached to your video, which is I think the most generous offer out there currently.
So if you’re wondering where to put your online video, you should definitely check out Openfilm.com. It’s a sharing site made by film enthusiasts, not computer enthusiasts.

Finding new UGC video sites is like shooting fish in a barrel these days. At least a couple times a month, a new one will pop up in the pages of Mashable, bub.blicio.us, or some other blog covering the social media space, and of course I love checkin…
