Gone are the days of small, grainy, black and white surveillance camera’s and systems. With technology moving forward by leaps and bounds everywhere else it is about time for Video Surveillance to move forward as well. And it is!!
As an IT professional and Security Consultant these new advances in CCTV technology are very exciting. You now have the ability to securely watch your surveillance systems across the internet or even on your cell phone! With the prices of IP based cameras now in the “affordable” range surveillance isn’t just CCTV anymore.
I want to use this blog to discuss the new IP technologies coming out for security and surveillance. Each blog will discuss a different aspect, i.e. specific camera’s and camera types (fixed position, pan-tilt-zoom, etc.), 3rd party software applications, remote monitoring, security system integration, ethics of surveillance, etc. I am very curious about your opinions of CCTV systems and the use of IP based solutions.
I have been exploring these systems for a while and have found that there are wide gaps in quality of cameras, manufacturers, resellers, and third party software solutions. One affordable solution that I have been looking at is the EZWatchPro NVR systems, predominately used with Vivotek and Sony IP cameras. You can look at the system here: http://www.security-kits.com/IP-Network-Video-Recording-Software-EZWatch-Pro-NVR-Record-Up-To-64-IP-Cameras-p-16433.html The things I like about this particular system are the ability to integrate and monitor up to 64 ip cameras simulaneously through one application; easy access and management of remote viewing; and a large variety of options when it comes to cameras, recording schedules, frame rates, and resolution.
I am looking for feedback from others in the video industry on IP cameras and software so I can further my own knowledge in the field and provide better services for my clients.
Next blog I want to discuss specific IP cameras and usage. To Megapixel or no Megapixel that is the question.
