Public Access Television

What next?

Now that all the shooting is over, the video has been edited, titles and music have been added, what next? Have a showing among family and friends? Enter it in a film festival? Get distribution (yeah! good luck on that one!)? For pro-amateurs the options are limited. There is one way to have your video shown, which is overlooked by many filmmakers and that is “Public Access Television”. Public access gives you the opportunity to have your video shown to a local audience. As a actor, and filmmaker I was looking for a outlet to have my videos shown. Film festivals are fine, as long as you want to spend the money for “entry fees” then are told your film wasn’t picked to be shown due to the volume of entries, but we’ll keep your entry fee (now why didn’t I think of that scam?). I stumbled upon “Public Access Television” and have been happy ever since. I now Produce, Direct a local Public Access Program which is aired every week. I have a following and most of all I get to make videos and have them shown. The beauty of it is, that is totally FREE, minus cost of video tape and DVD. There is no “fee” to have your video shown. I would suggest to any filmmaker to try “Public Access” in your local area.
