Are you a 20-something student of film school, a university or community college who doesn’t have enough money for pro software?
Are you a multimedia hobbyist who’s investigating freeware?
Are you a teenage High School student without parental permission to buy Final Cut Pro, After Effects, etc?
Are you an internet freeware fanatic?
Do you already have pro software, but are a little interested in free options?
If you are in one of these above categories, than this blog is for you. Otherwise, click the Back button on your browser to leave this blog immediately. Also note that you cannot download freeware from this site/blog. I will give you links to download from each program’s individual site. If you are really looking for a mass freeware download site, a Links page will be coming soon.
Purpose: The purpose of this blog is to prove that free software is available for real world multimedia pros to use in their commercial projects. Freeware is a complex subject and not all programs are created equal. This is where I step in. I have used many of these programs in real world situations to make money and accomplish my project goals. Some programs work great! Others, not so much. I’ll tell you which ones work and which ones don’t.
Hey! I’m called chrisColorado on the Videomaker Forums. I’m an all-around multimedia professional and video producer. I posted in the forums on Videomaker about Using Free Stuff and this is partly what got me started. I’m also interested in making films on shoestring budgets, and I’m a little bit of a software guru, so freeware is a new hobby of mine.
The blog is set up as a “book” with chapters. Each chapter is a review of a different freeware program. The chapter tells you where to go to get the freeware, where you can go for tutorials, whether you may use the freeware for commercial purposes/making money and other useful things.
This blog is still in progress. Each time I think I’ve found all the nifty freeware out there, I find even more, so maybe I’ll never finish…But I’ll still post the chapters I have as I finish them and update as needed. I also originally started the blog this last summer of 2008 and since then have used many of these programs in the production of my latest short film “Earthling”. I really need to overhaul this whole blog and I’ll be starting that now.
You are aloud to comment on my posts, especially if you have used the freeware and want to rate it or find a new freeware I haven’t written about, but I’ll approve all posts and I reserve the right to change or remove parts at my discretion, since after all, this IS my blog.
HINT: You stand a VERY good chance of having your comment changed or not getting approved if it contains swear words, links to porn sites, puts others down or has a total of more than two links. As I mentioned above, this blog is partly for teenagers.
Hey Chris,

I added a link to your blog from my blog! This is a great idea, I’m glad you are sharing how you do this!
